☘️Home oxygen therapy is a treatment method that improves human hypoxia by inhaling oxygen through equipment such as
oxygen concentrators and
CPAP machines. It is usually suitable for patients with respiratory diseases such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), cor pulmonale, and bronchial asthma. But be sure to note that home oxygen therapy is not suitable for all situations!
For example👇👇
1️⃣ Patients with mild hypoxemia:
For COPD patients with mild hypoxemia (arterial oxygen partial pressure of 56-60 mmHg or blood oxygen saturation of 89%-93%), long-term oxygen therapy may not bring obvious benefits.
2️⃣ Non-hypoxic dyspnea:
Oxygen therapy is only suitable for patients with hypoxia and is ineffective for non-hypoxic dyspnea.
3️⃣ No hypoxia or only mild hypoxia (pulse oxygen saturation>93%):
Long-term oxygen therapy is generally not recommended.
4️⃣ Hypercapnia patients:
Patients with neuromuscular and chest wall diseases accompanied by hypercapnia, and patients who cannot correct hypoxemia after receiving home non-invasive ventilation treatment may not be suitable for long-term oxygen therapy.
5️⃣ Recent surgical patients:
Patients who have just completed major surgery, especially those involving air cavity organs (such as chest, ENT, etc.) in a short period of time after surgery, are generally not suitable for immediate hyperbaric oxygen therapy due to the risk of air cavity effusion and gas embolism.
6️⃣ Barotrauma patients:
If barotrauma (such as diver's decompression sickness) has occurred, entering the hyperbaric oxygen chamber directly without professional treatment may aggravate the condition.
7️⃣ Ophthalmic diseases:
In cases such as retinal detachment and acute glaucoma, hyperbaric oxygen therapy may increase intraocular pressure, which is not conducive to recovery.
8️⃣ ENT diseases:
Patients with acute otitis media, unhealed tympanic membrane perforation, severe sinusitis, etc. may experience ear pain and aggravated inflammation due to changes in air pressure during treatment.
9️⃣ Internal medicine diseases:
Uncontrolled hypertension, diabetic ketoacidosis, acute infection, etc., as well as patients with lung diseases such as active bleeding, bullae, severe emphysema, etc., are all relative contraindications to hyperbaric oxygen therapy.
📢📢When considering home oxygen therapy, you should consult a doctor and decide whether home oxygen therapy is suitable based on the specific situation.
